Interview with Armin Pedevilla : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Armin Pedevilla : The main principle was to fit a design into a traditional environment. Therefore we took most characteristics of the neighbouring buildings as role model. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Armin Pedevilla : With our design we always strive for a masterpiece in craftsmanship. In this case the whole structural element (basically the naked house) was castes in exposed concrete. All fixtures were pre-positioned. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Armin Pedevilla : Media & Publications.
We also like to publish it on our homepage. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Armin Pedevilla : Mainly the design process takes two years.
After that the construction process takes another two years. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Armin Pedevilla : We considered the existing traditional buildings in this area, which are self-contained mountain farm houses.
.Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Armin Pedevilla : The design is singular. We will not re-do it. Every client will receive his own design. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Armin Pedevilla : Our way of working. Our way of doing design. Developing our own style of architecture. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Armin Pedevilla : We as Pedevilla Architects corporated with Arch. Caroline Willeit who helped us refine the design process. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Armin Pedevilla : Main target was to take the farmer and the farm house and reorganise it in the modern age. Everything changes through that: sozial, ecological, eceonomical habits. Thats why the farm house turned into a modern residence and the stable turned into chalet, wich is up for rent. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Armin Pedevilla : Basically the floor layout and the constructrion. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Armin Pedevilla : Pliscia 13 is basically the adress of the house. Plaiscia is the name of the hamlet, which consits of a handful of buildings. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Armin Pedevilla : pc & model. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Armin Pedevilla : Tradition, Regionality, Modern Interpretation, Material Reduction. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Armin Pedevilla : We mostly corporated with the cratsmen. But as on every other construction site with the specialised planners. .Frank Scott: What is the role of technology in this particular design?. Armin Pedevilla : We do a lot of rendering, 3d visualisation and modelling before the final design. So technology is indisplaceable. .Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Armin Pedevilla : We did a lot of traditional & regional based research. Research on role models. Did case studies.
The outcome is surely unique for this special location , but could in therm of background not be transported into urban areas. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Armin Pedevilla : Biggest challenge was the moulding of the structural element, namely the naked house. All fixtures were inlay works and could not be changed afterwards. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Armin Pedevilla : Because it is a unique design, which did win a lot of awards in the past years. It is very welcomed by the media and a very good publicity item. It is after all an italian design. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Armin Pedevilla : We improved a lot in terms of construction and pre-planning knowledge. .Frank Scott: Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?. Armin Pedevilla : None at the moment. .
