Interview with Alexey Samygin : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Alexey Samygin : I think that compass is one of the main tools in our profession. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Alexey Samygin : I wanted my table to be unusual, functional, quite neat and, of course, beautiful. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Alexey Samygin : With the help of this award, I would like to find like-minded customers, people who can not only pay, but also appreciate the uniqueness and originality of the objects i create. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Alexey Samygin : It took me around 2 weeks to create the idea and pass the drawings to the production. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Alexey Samygin : The task was to create a working desk comfortable for two people to seat at. But anyway there is always space for the inspiration. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. Alexey Samygin : I made a few copies for my old friends, who are also my customers. But i don't reject the possibility of selling or leasing the rights to manufacture the table. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. Alexey Samygin : It is entirely the result of my imagination. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Alexey Samygin : Designers, architects, people of creative professions, or anyone who wants to own an unusual, special object.
.Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Alexey Samygin : I think that it’s the design principle and the construction itself. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?. Alexey Samygin : I think, it’s quite obvious. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Alexey Samygin : Just the pen and the paper.
.Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Alexey Samygin : First of all it’s the table for two and secondly it’s originality. .Frank Scott: Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?. Alexey Samygin : My knowledge in the design and manufacture of furniture was enough to create this project independently.
.Frank Scott: Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?. Alexey Samygin : This project was made awhile ago and obtained an international patent, to make sure that the item is unique. I haven’t made any other research. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Alexey Samygin : It was necessary to produce a true to size mockup to make sure that the drawing board, which is the part of the tabletop, works perfectly. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Alexey Samygin : It was my eldest son’s advice, he’s also my business partner. .Frank Scott: What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?. Alexey Samygin : Despite the long time experience in this area, I continue to learn every day, because every project I make is unique. And while creating this very item, I’m sure I’ve learned something too) .
